New test lab

06 October 2014

Arco marked its 130th year in operation by becoming the first safety distributor to open its own in-house, independently accredited Product Assurance Laboratory.

The unveiling ceremony took place on 12 September at Arco’s National Distribution Centre in Hull, with former health secretary and secretary of state for trade and industry, Alan Johnson MP opening the laboratory.

The new facility enables Arco to test its own brand and vendor products in-house, including high-vis and flame resistant clothing, safety footwear and gloves against EN standards.

Alan Johnson told HSM's Catherine Hackett: "People who work for Arco help to save people from death and injury. When I hear people deride health and safety I think of Arco - a fourth generation family business - that is always leading the way.

"The opening of this new laboratory is great for Arco customers and great for the city of Hull. Now people can be reassured even more that the products do what they say on the tin, will save more lives and help to weed out counterfeit products."

Joint MD Thomas Martin, added: "Arco exists to help people get back safely to their families at the end of the working day. We've assembled this laboratory and the dream team working here to influence safety standards across the industry. We want to give our customers quality products and the reassurance of those products."
