New digital tool calculates the climate impact of workwear

30 March 2022

FRISTADS JUST made it easier to become more aware of the environmental footprint of your work clothes by launching Green Calculator – a digital tool that calculates the difference the choice of work clothes can make, based on real data.

In 2019, Fristads launched its first environmentally declared clothing collection, Fristads Green. Since then, several collections have been launched where each garment has an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), showing the total environmental impact of the garment, from construction and material to waste and transports. Now Fristads is taking the next step in the process to make it easier for the customer to understand their impact on the environment and reduce their climate footprint, by launching a digital tool that calculates the environmental impact of work clothes.

“It feels great to be the first company in the industry to offer a digital tool where our customers both can calculate how much they are reducing their environmental impact and get a basis for their own sustainability communication,” said Anders Hülse, managing director of Fristads. “We hope Green Calculator will offer our customers valuable transparency and insights and convince more people to make conscious choices when it comes to work clothes. Good work clothes should protect the user, but not at unnecessary expense of the environment.”

Calculates the environmental impact of work clothes
Fristads Green Calculator collects data for all garments with an EPD in one place, along with comparable products from Fristads’ other product range. By choosing which work clothes you are currently using or would like to purchase, as well as the number of employees of the company, Green Calculator quickly calculates the environmental impact of the garments and – above all – by how much the CO2e and water consumption can be reduced by choosing products from the Fristads Green collection.

Ever since the launch of the first environmentally declared collection for carpenters, Fristads Green has been expanded to include collections for service and industry as well as outer garments. In 2022 a fourth collection will be launched – Fristads Green High Visibility. This will mark another big step towards Fristads’ goal to offer environmentally declared garments within all product segments.

Green Calculator is available at fristads.com and is open for everybody to use.

Facts: Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)
An Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD, maps the total environmental impact of a product from a life cycle perspective. No aspect of the design or production has been left out. The clothes in the Fristads Green collection have been examined in the following areas:
- material choices
- material quantities
- dyeing processes
- water and electricity consumption at the factory
- packaging
- transports

Facts: This is Fristads Green
Fristads Green says it is the first environmentally declared clothing collection in the world and was launched in the autumn of 2019. All Fristads Green products have a so-called Environmental Product Declaration, EPD, showing the total environmental impact of the garments.
