Bull Products protects world’s most famous clock, Big Ben
05 January 2018
Bull Products, a manufacturer of life-saving fire protection equipment, has won a major contract to supply its renowned Cygnus alarm systems during the £61 million restoration of Big Ben.

Having already supplied more than 30 of its Cygnus alarm systems, more alarms are to be installed next year. The temporary alarm systems will be installed around and outside of the 96-metre-tall building, and will ensure the building is protected against intruders, whilst protecting workers on site over the next four years.
Described as a major innovation in wireless emergency fire, first aid, and intruder alarms for construction sites, the Cygnus radio system, manufactured by Bull Products, has been used on some of the largest construction projects across the UK.
It has been designed for specific use on construction sites where changing site conditions and environments demand a far higher performance from the radio than that found in standard industry wireless linked fire systems. The alarm systems installed include the Cygnus Fire Call Point Alarm, Cygnus Control Panel, and the Cygnus Input/Output Interface Unit.
Bradley Markham, director at Bull Products, said: “We’re very proud to be a part of this project and supplying our Cygnus alarm systems in order to safeguard this 160-year-old Grade I listed building. The Cygnus system is a revolutionary temporary alarm system that will protect the site and workers 24-7. As the project progresses, the alarm systems can be moved around to where they are needed the most, thus providing a flexible, cost-effective, and reliable solution.”
Bull has also recently secured two other contracts to supply its Cygnus systems to the commercial skyscraper on 52 Lime Street (The Scalpel), and the high-rise building on 70 St Mary Axe, also known as London’s ‘Can of Ham’.
