Hoping to reduce deaths and
injuries, AFI-Uplift has launched
two major initiatives to improve
safety for operators of Mobile
Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).
Firstly, it is introducing Smart Zone, a Smart Card reader system that will stop unauthorised use of MEWPs - ensuring that the only people who can start up and operate a MEWP are those who are properly trained and authorised to do so.
Secondly, AFI wants to protect operators from being crushed against overhead obstructions - this is one of the main causes of death and serious injury in the powered access industry.
To address this concern the company has launched Sanctuary Zone, which comprises steel frames that project above the MEWP platform stopping any overhead obstruction from crushing the operator.
