The importance of eye health

24 September 2024

ARE YOUR employees getting regular eye checks?

Sight is the sense people fear losing the most yet so many of us don’t really know how to look after our eyes.  Monday 23 - Sunday 29 September 2024 is National Eye Health Week, a week dedicated to promoting the importance of good eye health and regular eye checks.

Employers duty of care

We should all take personal responsibility for our eye health but it’s also an essential duty of care for employers.  UK legislation stipulates that PPE must be provided free of charge where deemed necessary by risk assessment.  This includes industrial eye protection, both prescription and non-prescription, glasses for the use of Display Screen Equipment (DSE) and Visual Display Units (VDU’s).

Corporate eye care programme

MCR Safety is a manufacturer of protective eyewear offering an extensive range of prescription and non-prescription safety glasses, tailored to meet the needs of a corporate eyecare programme. With a manufacturing legacy dating back to 1953, the company takes pride in producing all its prescription safety glasses and DSE eyewear in its own UK-based ISO9001 certified optical lab. Its commitment to quality is further reinforced by the CE / UKCA certification to EN166 standards and the prestigious British Kitemark carried by all their prescription safety eyewear.

EyeTicket online ordering and management

Support to the business sector extends beyond the basic supply of glasses; MCR also provide a holistic online ordering and management platform for prescription safety eyewear designed to streamline corporate eyecare. The completely paperless system is known as EyeTicket and provides a convenient and environmentally friendly solution. It also includes access to a nationwide network of partner opticians.

As part of the EyeTicket scheme each employee benefits from:

  • A full eye check with one of the partner Opticians
  • Fully compliant Safety Glasses (if required)
  • Glasses for DSE/VDU work (if required)

Eye health is monitored and maintained

The employer has complete control and visibility over all activity with detailed reporting available via the EyeTicket platform on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. All historic activity is archived and available to view at any time. The system generates reminders when employees are next due to visit the optician, so essentially this means that no one enrolled on the scheme can forget when their eye check is due.  It’s a great way of making sure eye health is monitored and maintained across the entire business.

Choice of safety frames

There are over 20 different safety frames to choose from as part of the corporate eyecare profile, the employer can make all of these available to their team or tailor a range to suit their own budget or other specific requirements.  Frames are modern and attractive, in line with fashion eyewear trends.

Take control of corporate eye care

National Eye Health Week is designed to put eyecare in the spotlight so what better time to take control of corporate eyecare for your business.
