Separating man & machine

21 July 2014

The interface between man and machine remains one of the biggest hazards on the modern construction site and whilst segregation of people and plant is the preferred option this is not always possible.

SiteZone by Dorset based OnGrade is a radio frequency identification (RFID) proximity warning system. Although SiteZone uses advanced technology, it is said to be the simplicity of its operation and flexibility that has made it so successful.

SiteZone works by producing an invisible detection zone around a vehicle. Personnel operating on the site are issued with personal transponders (sometimes called tags).

When one of these tags enters the detection zone a warning is provided to both the vehicle operator and the pedestrian so that the appropriate action to avoid a collision can be taken. Features of the system include configurable detection zone and data logging.

SiteZone can be deployed on almost any type of mobile plant and the EasyFit system specifically developed for the construction industry can be deployed in most circumstances in well under 30 minutes. SiteZone is available for hire from safety specialists ESS Safeforce.
