Going underground

18 November 2013

Bradshaw are accustomed to working with the transport sector, which until now had kept them above ground.

But recently, Bradshaw was tasked with supplying a vehicle that could work within London's underground tunnels. The vehicle needed to be capable of towing 800kgs, only 450mm wide, be shorter overall than previous supplied vehicles, with greater manoeuvrability and improved driver comfort.

Bradshaw used the T80 tow tractor as the base vehicle and worked to ensure that drive axles, steering axles and components would function effectively and, together with the AC control systems, were able to meet the stringent health and safety criteria as well as maintaining performance and braking requirements.

Bradshaw produced a prototype within eight weeks, and delivered all nine final vehicles within 14 weeks, together with driver training.
