BSIF Networking Day provides "bright future for Federation"

29 September 2014

The Belfry played host to the BSIF's 17th Annual Networking Day Event on 25th September with a large turn out of BSIF delegates and guests.

Sarah Bridge, deputy managing director at BM Polyco Ltd and chairman of the BSIF welcomed delegates and over freshly brewed coffee, tea and pastries, encouraged them to continue making the most of the BSIF membership.

BSIF CEO, Alan Murray, provided an update on the current activities of the federation> In particular, he highlighted the progress with public affairs and political engagement in support of the federation’s need to be able to reach the ears of the legislators at Westminster.

"It was also a chance to remind those present of the challenges we face in redeeming the reputation of the market somewhat damaged by the 'Efl n Safety' handle," Alan commented. "At the local level it was an opportunity to re–enforce the support offered by PB Consulting in members reaching their local MPs to build a relationship and remind them about the value of the safety & health sector to UK plc.

"The agenda provided an ideal networking platform set against the backdrop of a mini exhibition by Federation supporters followed by lunch. With the golfers teeing off at 1.30pm and all others a little apprehensive but excited about what lay ahead in their country pursuits all the delegates headed to the appropriate venues, until reconvening at 7pm for the Networking Gala Dinner."

With more than 100 people in attendance, the dinner was a great success and generous contributions flowed to the named charity, Hearing Link. Over £700 was raised on the night that will go to support those living with hearing loss.

"I have attended all previous Networking Events bar one in the past seventeen years," Murray observed. "This has been certainly one to remember. Not only because it is my first Networking Event as CEO of the BSIF but because it was an energetic gathering where new members met old and opportunities abounded for further connections. In a week when Europe won the 2014 Ryder Cup, the BSIF won new friends and guaranteed a bright future for the Federation."

Golf and games
A total of 28 golfers took to the pristine PGA course at 1.30pm eager to impress and be crowned the winner of the BSIF Golf Tournament. Teams of four teed off from different tees to ensure an enjoyable day of golf. Alan Murray, kept a close eye on proceedings zipping around the course on a golf buggy and ferrying late arrivals.

The golf trophy was hotly contested with Nick Murray of Bunzl Safety Services taking the overall plaudits with a score of 38 points. Mark Johnstone, JSP and Ian Marin, Arco both scored 35 points but Ian was placed second on count back.

Over on the country pursuits course, teams competed in archery, laser clay pigeon shooting and human table football. The triumphant team was made up of representatives from 3M, UBM and The McOnie Agency.
