The Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA), the UK's independent authority on the use of fork lift trucks, has urged those who use and maintain fork lift trucks to undertake practical and appropriate action following the World Health Organisation's classification of diesel exhaust fumes as carcinogenic.
FLTA chief executive David Ellison said: “With so much press coverage about the harmful effects of diesel fumes, some fork lift truck users have expressed concerns about the safety of their fork lift truck operations.
“Fumes are associated with a number of fuel types, which is why we have created a free and straightforward fact sheet on this subject.
“Those who use and maintain fork lift trucks will need a sound risk assessment and practical solutions to deal with any fumes which may contaminate their workplace.
Fact Sheet 22 - Fumes Associated with Fork Lift Truck Operations - is available for immediate viewing in the advice section of the FLTA website.
