A new UK scheme to accredit health and safety consultants is to be announced at the beginning of September.
Work to develop the scheme, has been accelerated as a result of Lord Young's government review into health and safety, reports IOSH. Lord Young has been critical of people operating as unqualified consultants, and blames them for some of the worst examples of over-thetop actions carried out in the name of health and safety.
The voluntary scheme is likely to be introduced early next year. It will be set up and initially chaired by the HSE with a consortium of professional bodies eventually running the register.
Consultants on the scheme will have to pay an annual fee, but this will be to cover administrative costs only. www.iosh.co.uk
