Bump test every time

The most common service and calibration recommendation for gas detection instruments is at least once a year.

However, it is less well known that BSIF and other industry bodies recommend bump testing any portable instrument used for worker health and safety protection in a potentially hazardous environment before EVERY use.
The bump test is a quick and simple check to ensure the instrument’s sensors and alarms are all functioning correctly before it is deployed. A sensor giving a zero reading isn’t necessarily working properly.
