Cut contamination on food production lines
16 May 2022
MARTOR WAS recently asked to do a site survey for a large food manufacturer that wanted to make sure it was using the most up-to-date health and safety compliant tools.
The good news was that its knives were metal-bodied, so detectable. However, the blades weren’t stainless steel, so could easily rust. Rust can harbour bacteria and is a serious hygiene risk. Stainless steel is highly rust-resistant, so much safer.
Also, the metal knives were painted. And on some, the paint had flaked off. So where had those paint flakes ended up? Nobody knew, but everybody was mortified. Potentially toxic, paint can also be a breeding ground for bacteria. Luckily, swapping painted knives for something similar, but food-safe, metal detectable and completely compliant, was simple.
Martor says you can cut food recall risks by booking a FREE on-site knife risk assessment. Its comprehensive site surveys will help you identify and eliminate any risk of knife-related contamination and the company can recommend and supply options that are industry-leading for food safety and hygiene.
