MARTOR chose the Health & Safety
North to launch its latest safety
knife- the Merak. It is
modelled on the successful
MARTego with its squeeze trigger
blade activation system and includes
the fully automatic blade
retraction (IBR)technology
As a guide to improved safer
cutting MARTOR created a Safety
Index for knives where Level 1is the
highest and is exclusively for cutting
and slitting tools such as the
specialist reel snails and safety
scissors. Level 2 includes the
concealed blade knives, level 3
represents knives benefiting from the
fully automatic retracting blades,
whilst level 4 contains knives with
spring loaded retracting blades.
Lower levels include fixed blade, scalpels and so on. Many companies are using the safety index as targets for improvements.
