Arco raises thousands for charity
04 October 2017
Staff at Hull-based safety business, Arco, have been busy raising over £5000 for two chosen charities, the Ellie Mai Fund, which aims to support families with children suffering from brain tumours, and Kidney Research UK, the leading UK charity committed to developing treatments and public awareness of kidney disease.
Every year staff members from Arco’s national distribution centre (NDC) challenge themselves by organising a number of charity events in order to raise vital funds.
This year, the NDC team were joined by colleagues from the new digital team and Head Office to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk and the Way of The Roses Cycle Challenge.
The first challenge saw a group of 15 walk 25 tough miles over the Yorkshire peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The team were supported by two Area Rangers, Steve Hastie and Robert Ashford, who offered navigational advice and training sessions along the way. The challenge took the group over twelve hours to complete, starting at 7am and finally crossing the finishing line at 7pm.
The second fundraising event, the Way of The Roses, pushed a team of 11 employees to cycle 170 miles between Morecambe and Bridlington through historic cities including York and Lancaster. The two day ride consisted of a variety of challenging terrains including country lanes, busy city roads and traffic-free paths, plus the team endured over 9,000ft of uphill cycling during the course of the event.
Warehouse Analyst at Arco and a member of the Way of the Roses team, Simon Stoner, commented: “The two challenges certainly put both of our teams to the test with both experiencing difficult weather conditions, varying terrains and tough physical tests. Although the events were extremely challenging, it’s always worthwhile taking part in charity fundraising as the money they raise is vital for so many people around the country.”
