Spotlight on HSM Live Scotland
16 October 2024
Ahead of our next event - HSM Live Scotland - we ask Christine Knapp what delegates can expect from our upcoming event on 27 November 2024.

Can you tell our readers about HSM Live Scotland and what attendees can expect from the event?
This year’s HSM Live Scotland takes place on the 27 November 2024 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC). Following the launch of our new regional events at this location last year, we are delighted to be returning to this venue. Last year was exceptionally well-attended and this year we expect more than 500 attendees. We know that this region has been missing a dedicated health and safety event for many years.
Having attended previous health and safety events in Scotland, we knew that there was a need from the end user for something local, that offers good content and CPD accreditation, as well as great networking opportunities - something that with our history in the events sector we can deliver.
HSM Live Scotland 2024 is completely free - including tea, coffee and lunch - and boasts two conference theatres, which will feature leading industry figures sharing best practice, case studies and legislative updates. Delegates have the choice of whichever sessions they opt to attend and will receive CPD certificates for attending. The event is also co-located with a NEBOSH alumni conference.
What are the plans for the day?
As a one-day table top event, we will be featuring 40+ great exhibitors from all areas of the industry together, allowing attendees the chance to chat directly with the exhibitors. With an in-depth conference program across three theatres, there is a huge array of content, across many topics to choose from, presented by not only the exhibitors by key associations and leaders in the industry.
What makes this event different
It’s the only dedicated event for the industry in the heart of Scotland, as well as offering CPD accredited seminars - you can view the timetables in this preview so you can plan ahead!
The day concludes with the ever-popular mock trial, which will be delivered by DAC Beachcroft. Here, the audience is the jury and it's based on a real case study on Scottish law – so it's actually based on Scottish health and safety legislation. This is a real highlight as it's specific to people based in that region on a real case. The audience are the jury and will give their verdict – guilty or not guilty – and it will then revealed what happened in the actual case itself.
Remind us why this venue was chosen
Edinburgh is the heart of Scotland, the EICC offers great dedicated seminar theatres and space for the table top exhibition. Centrally located its easy to reach by public transport as well as plenty of car parking nearby.
You mentioned partnerships - can you tell me more?
HSM works incredibly closely with the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF), and partner with the association for all of our events. HSM is their official media partner and we are delighted the BSIF will be holding two sessions across the course of the day.
NEBOSH have been working closely with us and our events and as I mentioned earlier, are running its own dedicated theatre for its alumni.
We also have key seminar sessions being put on by both the Health and Safety Executive and The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
Tell me about the sponsors?
We are very lucky that MSA has continued its support of this event for the second time, and remain our headline sponsor. They will also be presenting in theatre one on SCBA platform for the future. We also have the Safety Knife Company sponsoring our delegate bags again for the second year. Our theatres are kindly sponsored by RS and IOSH, and the registration area is sponsored by Scottish based company Lion Safety. Without support from our sponsors we would not be able to run this FREE event so we are very grateful to them and their continued support.
What are your aspirations for the day?
We hit the ground running with our first event last year, and I am looking forward to seeing an equally great number of attendees from the local and wider area attend the event - from all aspects of the world of health and safety. Attendees can make the most of the huge amount of CPD content, network with colleagues, as well as making the most of the many varied exhibitors that will be showcasing products and services in the break out area.
Once again we are putting on a mock trail in the afternoon and this has always been incredibly well attended and I hope that everyone enjoys this insight into a real prosecution case.
What’s next in the series?
We are looking forward to our Coventry event, which will run for the second time on 4 June 2025. We have other plans in the pipeline, so watch this space!
