Caring for what you wear

24 February 2025

BUYING GOOD safety product isn’t enough, only by working with brands that care (and can demonstrate this) will fulfil the complex requirements of today’s workforce and tomorrow’s corporate priorities.

First and foremost, Leo prioritises the safety of the wearer, high visibility clothing’s primary purpose is to make people highly visible. The company says it achieve this by ensuring that the highest performing fabrics, reflective tapes and components are used to craft our products.

Every factory Leo works with are subject to a SEDEX SMETA or BSCI audit, ensuring that workers are looked after and are free from discrimination.

Leo support charities at home in the UK, as well as in the countries where we manufacture, making a positive impact on the communities that it work within.

The company says, "We pride ourselves on providing products that enable people to do a job that was once inaccessible to them through a lack of appropriate PPE. This has been achieved by stocking the most comprehensive women’s high visibility clothing range, which includes the first maternity range and the only stocked modesty tunic, as well as stocking a vast size range for both men and womenLocated minutes away from the North Devon Coast, we value our surroundings and take an active approach to reduce our impact.

"We get away from our desks and clean our local beaches a couple of times a year and partner with Surfers Against Sewage to fight against plastic pollution."

Garment care

Leo has a mindset of continued improvement, not only do we bring several new and innovative products to the market every year, such as the new COOLMAX ALL SEASON polo shirts, but the company is constantly evolving its existing range.

Even its most popular products, such as the Clovelly Anorak, sees vast improvements in both design and performance in 2025.

Since 2019, Leo has led the way on sustainability by transitioning their range to EcoViz. An EcoViz garment represents the combination of designing for garment durability, with responsible choices on fabrics and components, resulting in considerable savings on CO2 and energy emissions and without compromising conformance, performance, or appearance.

With 100% of Leo products now transitioned, every single garment reflects our dedication to both wearer protection and environmental stewardship.

Last year, Leo worked with Green Story to produce lifecycle assessments (a scientiic assessment of the potential environmental impact of a product during its entire lifecycle) on over 100 products, 2025 will see us provide many more 3rd party verified saving figures that our customers can utilise in their own emissions calculations.

Packaging

Sometimes a plastic bag is the best solution for the job and Leo believes this is the case with high visibility clothing, so the company uses the best plastic bag there is.

The Leo Cares bag is made from 100% recycled plastic, is fully recyclable and is biodegradable, leaving no microplastics behind. Water and plant-based inks have now also been introduced.

Garment end of life

Once the product meets the end of its intended use, Leo work with many partners to ensure a next life for those garments. Leo works with many end-of-life partners that can take used high visibility clothing and make new products such as furniture, bins or even dog beds!

Leo can demonstrate that they care, from design to delivery and, by partnering with us, you can be confident that wearers are getting the very best protection, whilst fulfilling your business goals.
