New waste management plan boosts sustainability

17 June 2025

COBA HAS launched a new waste management initiative aimed at significantly reducing its environmental footprint.

This major upgrade to its recycling and waste handling systems is part of the company’s broader sustainability strategy, reinforcing its commitment to responsible manufacturing and corporate stewardship.

Revolutionising recycling on site

The new waste management plan introduces dedicated facilities for efficient material segregation and recycling across COBA’s Warwickshire site. The key measures include:

  • General Waste Control: A newly installed skip system ensures that non-recyclables are managed responsibly, reducing landfill contributions.
  • Cardboard & Paper Recycling: With a dedicated skip, the recycling of paper-based materials helps conserve forests and cut energy consumption.
  • Plastic Recycling: Focused efforts on plastics prevent environmental pollution and support circular production practices.
  • Wood Waste Repurposing: Wood offcuts are now collected for reuse in composite materials or biomass fuel, minimising unnecessary deforestation.
  • Internal Recycling Bins: Strategically placed bins across the site empower employees to sort waste at the source, improving recycling rates and reducing contamination.

"Proper waste management isn’t just a tick-box exercise—it’s a core part of our aim to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment, whilst still enhancing comfort for workforces across the country," Chris Stanley, group commercial director at COBA.

Driving down contamination, driving up efficiency

To maximise the effectiveness of these systems, COBA has introduced site-wide education on proper recycling practices. Employees are encouraged to be vigilant in waste segregation to avoid contamination, which can render entire recycling batches unusable.

Sustainability that goes beyond waste

COBA’s efforts extend far beyond waste management. The company’s environmental programme includes:

  • Carbon Offsetting: Recently offsetting over 9 tonnes of CO₂ emissions from gas usage alone.
  • Renewable Energy: Solar panel installation has reduced reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Eco-Friendly Packaging: All COBA packaging is now 100% recyclable.
  • Ethical Sourcing: As Sedex members, COBA ensures supply chain transparency and environmental diligence.
  • Sustainable Products: COBA continuously innovates to include more recycled and regenerated materials in its product range.

A prime example of this is COBA’s ReGen Range, an eco-conscious anti-fatigue mat made with recycled materials. It’s designed for demanding industrial environments while supporting sustainability goals—proving that comfort and conscience can go hand in hand.

Looking ahead

The COBA team is already working on the next phase of improvements, seeking out new materials, technologies, and systems that will further lower the company’s carbon footprint without compromising the high performance its customers expect.
