Foreword - April 2019

19 March 2019

WELCOME TO the April issue of HSM magazine where our focus is on head protection, footwear, training, transport and fire safety.

You’ll have no doubt also noticed that this issue of HSM also has a reversible cover as we take an extensive look at the Health & Safety Event, which takes place on 9-11 April 2019 at NEC Birmingham. This will be my first visit to the event since I took over as HSM’s editor last year and I’m excited to meet many of you at the event.

HSM will play a core role at the Health & Safety Event as not only will we be providing live coverage on www.hsmsearch.com with videos, pictures, articles and more but we will also for the first time be hosting our own theatre. The HSM Knowledge Exchange will feature panels of experts take part in interactive question and answer sessions with the audience on a range of pertinent health and safety topics.

The topics on offer include working at height and preventing falls, working in confined spaces, health and well-being,  using respiratory protective equipment, health and safety leadership, managing noise and vibration and more. We are also delighted to announce that each session will be chaired by Louis Wustemann, who will be known to many of you as he is an experienced health and safety journalist having edited several magazines in the sector for the past 15 years.

The Health and Safety Event is co-located with The Fire Safety Event, The Facilities Event and The Security Event. It’s free to attend the event and you badge gives you access to all four shows, 350 exhibitors and more than 50 hours of CPD-accredited content, including the HSM Knowledge Exchange. So, if you’d like to join 12,000 other professionals at the NEC Birmingham on 9-11 April, register for FREE at www.healthandsafetyevents.co.uk

Safety and Health Excellence Awards

The Safety and Health Excellence Awards will be presented at a gala dinner on night two of the Health and Safety Event on 10 April. The awards will be hosted by Sean Lock and 450 people have already bought tickets to what will once again be the biggest an most fun networking event in the sector.

I was one of the judges for this year’s health and safety categories and I can tell you the quality of entries was outstanding and it was really hard to cut more than 200 entries down into a final shortlist. You can see the shortlist on our news pages and congratulations to all who made the final list. If you’d like to join us at the awards night only limited tickets remain.

The Awards take place on 10 April at Vox, Resorts World in NEC Birmingham and guests will enjoy a VIP drinks reception, three course meal, table wine, comedy from Sean Lock, magic acts, retro arcade games, photobooth with fun props, band and dancefloor and of course the awards presentation itself. Tickets are £199+VAT each or £1,800+VAT for table of 10. You can buy your tickets at www.she-awards.co.uk
