Rugby legend Rory Underwood to speak at Health & Safety Event
09 December 2015
Rugby legend and former RAF jet pilot Rory Underwood will be taking to the main Conference Theatre on Thursday 24 March 2016 at the Health & Safety Event, taking place at Birmingham NEC.
Hosted by event partners, British Safety Council and International Institute of Risk and Safety Management, the Conference Theatre will provide the platform for Rory to share his extensive knowledge of aerospace safety and leadership.
Rory Underwood is the former British Lion and England rugby international and founder of team development consultancy, Wingman. He is also working with Alcumus, the provider of technology-enabled compliance risk management and certification services, as development director.
Best known for his prowess on the international rugby scene (an impressive 85 caps and 49 tries for England), Rory also spent more than 18 years in the RAF as both a jet pilot and a human factors trainer. In this role, he was responsible for quality and risk management initiatives, including Crew Resources Management training.
Rory has spent more than 10 years working with a variety of businesses and organisations in different sectors, using his flying and international sporting background to help organisations achieve success.
After 15 years consulting with businesses in high risk activities, Rory will be talking about the challenge of balancing the management of health and safety risk against business’ financial drivers. He will be using his experience of flight safety to provide an enlightening talk on behavioural safety throughout other sectors, as well as using analogies from his experience in international rugby and as a jet pilot to highlight issues in successful management and leadership in a health & safety context.
Following his talk, visitors will then be given the rare opportunity to meet Rory Underwood at the Alcumus Cafe.
