The winners take it all
07 July 2014
On 17 June, industry leaders and organisations gathered at what was a buzzing Safety & Health Expo, to find out the winners of this year’s BSIF Safety Awards. We caught up with the winners of the BSIF Safety Excellence Award and the Service Award in the afterglow of their successes.
Safety Excellence Award winner
The Safety Excellence Award is based on case studies submitted by members of the BSIF that recognise major improvements in occupational safety in the previous year. This year’s winner was Parker Merchanting for the work they carried out with Carillion WSP.
Commenting on their award, Dominic Proctor, general manager at Parker Merchanting said: "We are extremely proud to be winners of this year’s Safety Excellence Award as it highlights the improvements we have made to our service offering and how we have added value to our customers.
"The work we carried out with Carillion WSP involved an in-depth trial of a number of different Polyco gloves, in the same scenario they would face out on the road in order to determine the best hand protection for the workers.
"This particular case study illustrated how we are not simply box tickers, that we listen to how our customers are currently using their personal protective equipment and see where improvements can be made by offering tailor made solutions.”
For 128 years, Parker Merchanting has been offering bespoke head to toe PPE solutions to a variety of industries including construction, food, local government and recently facilities management. During Safety & Health Expo, Parker Merchanting launched their new PPE Training and Consultancy service.
Dominic continued: "Winning the BSIF Safety Excellence award enhances our credibility within the industry and highlights the importance of PPE and how working with a company who are experts in their field can be very beneficial.”
Service Award winner
The Service Award is presented to companies in the safety field offering exceptional and innovative service solutions and is voted by the entrants’ own customers. This year, Guarsdman won the Service Award for the third time.
Mike Sargeant, managing director at Guardsman said: "Winning the BSIF Service Award means a lot to the company, as it shows that our customers are pleased with the service we are offering and delivering
to them.”
Mike continues: "As a relatively small company we are able to make decisions quickly and tailor solutions to the needs and wants of our customers.”
Guardsman is a family run organisation that has been supplying major industrial customers and utilities with PPE for over 40 years. Specialising in the distribution of PPE across a wide selection of industries, Guardsman ensures their customers are equipped with the correct and highest quality safety gear.
Commenting on this year’s Safety Awards, Alan Murray said: "It has been great to see so many companies from the health and safety industry come together to recognise the products and services that are available to help improve health and safety in the workplace.
"The calibre and number of entrants we had this year has been impressive and I look forward to welcoming the same level of entrants to next year’s Safety Awards.”
