Quantitative face fit testing for the 21st Century
14 May 2025
QUANTITATIVE FIT testing is comprised of two distinct technologies: Controlled Negative Pressure (CNP) and Ambient Particle Counting (APC).

Both provide a numerical measure known as a fit factor, assessing how well a respirator seals to the face, unlike qualitative fit testing (typically a bitter or sweet ‘taste test’), which relies on subjective sensory responses to aerosol agents.
The new AeroFit face fit test system from OHD has been developed by experts to redesign APC fit testing and bring the technology into the 21st century. AeroFit does not require a tablet or Bluetooth to perform fit tests. Other improvements include quicker set-up, automated daily verification, searchable respirator lists, improved workflows and quieter operation. The unit can test all respirator types in a controlled environment using particle counting.
OHD are the only manufacturer worldwide to offer both types of quantitative fit testing technology. As a pioneer in respirator fit testing, OHD developed the revolutionary and unique CNP quantitative method currently available in their QuantiFit2 model, which can be used indoors or outdoors. Robust out in the field and quick to set up, it is widely used by responsive teams who value portability and no environmental restrictions, including the FBI and the U.S. Navy. It adheres to HSE protocols (INDG 479) and is suitable for half- and full-face respirators.
Shawcity is the only fit-testing instrument supplier to offer both APC and CNP technologies in the UK and Ireland with AeroFit and QuantiFit2. Each unit is available to purchase or hire and can be fully serviced and maintained in the UK, eliminating the time delays traditionally associated with having to send units back to the U.S.A. manufacturer.
