Wind energy: Healthy for the environment, but how healthy for workers?

17 December 2013

As the wind energy sector continues to grow, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work has published a report examining the risks faced by workers during the various stages of the wind turbine life cycle and outlining the challenges ahead for the industry.

Wind is key to the EU’s move towards renewable energy. The wind energy sector is growing quickly, but bringing with it many occupational safety and health risks as many aspects of onshore and offshore wind turbines are unique, and so are the working environments in which they are found.

EU-OSHA’s report examines the risks to wind energy workers along the various stages of onshore and offshore wind turbines’ life cycle and looks at the challenges faced by the industry as it progresses towards providing a safer working environment.
