Expanded free guide to machinery guarding standards
09 May 2013
Procter Machine Guarding has published the 9th edition of 'On Your Guard - A Designer's Guide to Machinery Guarding Standards.' The new version reflects recent changes to standards, adds standards relating to other aspects of machinery safety, and has more 'Type C' standards for specific classes of machine.
At the heart of the guide is an extensive table of British, European and International standards; this table has been heavily revised to reflect recent changes and to add more standards. Indeed, the ninth edition of the guide lists over 80 standards and other published documents relating to machinery safety.
Further changes in the new edition include the latest statistics for industrial accidents, as well as updated lists of useful resources and sources of further information. As with previous editions of the guide, there is important background information about the current machinery safety regulations and their relationship with the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, together with the Directive's requirements relating to CE marking of machinery and guarding.
Risk assessment and risk reduction are also covered, and there are practical tips for designing machine guards to comply with the standards.
'On Your Guard - A Designer's Guide to Machinery Guarding Standards' is essential reading for anyone responsible for specifying, designing, installing or maintaining machine guards, whatever the nature of the 'machine' as defined in the Machinery Directive.
