A special construction charity reception will take place at The Savoy on 3 November 2010. The reception will launch the Deeney Fund in aid of the Lighthouse Club, which is a charity that helps families of construction workers affected by serious accidents or illnesses.
Since the death of her husband Kieron in 2004, Jennifer Deeney has worked tirelessly to make construction a safer place. After only 13 weeks of marriage, Kieron was killed in a construction accident, falling 40 feet to his death.
Following Kieron's death, Jennifer became a health and safety inspector working with the Health and Safety Executive and also contractors so that they understand the real legacy of a fatality.
During the last few months, Jennifer Deeney has helped one of the UK's leading construction businesses, Byrne Group, to develop new ways to improve safety. Making people even more aware of the consequences of their actions has added a new dimension to the way Byrne Group approaches health and safety. She has been an inspiration to the directors, supervisors and project managers, helping them understand what happens to a family after a fatality.
Jennifer has established The Deeney Fund and with Byrne Group is aiming to raise £200,000 so that construction can provide better support to families affected by serious accidents or illnesses. To mark the launch of the Deeney Fund in aid of the Lighthouse Club, a group of female construction professionals have taken the brave decision to model safety equipment to produce a one-off calendar. The limited edition calendar will only be available at this special event.
The Deeney Fund Charity Reception will be one of the first events to be held at the newly restored Savoy hotel, London. Jennifer Deeney said: “I'm so excited that we have an opportunity to launch the fund at The Savoy on 3 November. I'm trying to raise £200,000 to establish The Deeney Fund, which will come under the auspices of the Lighthouse Club. It will provide financial and practical help for families suffering hardship after the death or major injury of a construction working breadwinner.â€
The Deeney Fund Charity Reception will be held at The Savoy on 3 November 2010 between 6.30-9pm. Two tickets to the event and three calendars costs £999 and includes champagne and canapés at the reception.
