Personal safety devices boost staff satisfaction scores

09 September 2024

MAKING POSITIVE health and wellbeing actions part of team culture is becoming increasingly important for more and more businesses, and technology pioneers like Peoplesafe and Humanity are leading the way.

The new generation of group health and wellbeing benefit plans now proactively reward employees for good health and commitment. These can be redeemed against everything from gym memberships, wellness apps and company cars, to dental plans, childcare vouchers, discounted dinners out and retail vouchers.

But in the world of workplace perks, the menu is expanding way beyond these more traditional add-ons to promote a more satisfied employee with a healthier work life. Personal safety technology has already become part of that expanding picture, with more employers providing their people with simple and intuitive apps and devices to provide not only a fast emergency response in a crisis, but also invaluable peace of mind that help is there if needed.

Market leader in the Personal Safety tech space, Peoplesafe, now has its personal safety Pro-App installed on the Apple Watch, in what is set to be an ‘Apple First’ in safety technology development. The company has helped create an enterprise-level solution for any organisation to protect their workforce, providing a complete safety technology ecosystem for all – whether in the field or on their commute.

This new partnership leverages the Peoplesafe Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), which sits at the very heart of the personal safety service it provides. This central emergency hub is where all personal safety alarm activations are received and handled within an average 3-second response time. With employees now able to access this vital lifeline across the Apple portfolio, more businesses will now be able to offer their workforce an easily accessible, and often vital, safety solution 24/7, adding to the 220,000 employees already protected by Peoplesafe globally.

Peoplesafe is just one of the companies helping to drive health and wellbeing nearer the top of the UK employer agenda. At Apple’s Innovation Partner event, which took place at its European HQ in Battersea Power Station, it engaged with another technology company that’s leading the way.

The team at Humanity has developed a health and wellbeing app for employers to roll out that’s equally easy and cost-effective to deploy. Inclusive and engaging, it’s been proven to positively impact healthy behaviour change both in the workplace and beyond.

Humanity’s inspiring undertaking is to increase employee healthspan: adding years of healthy life. This centres on users developing a better understanding of ageing and ageing in health. People using the app can better understand whether the actions they are taking are working to improve their health because Humanity is pulling in their movement data (and if available, heart rate data from a compatible wearable) from the past and present, and providing thewith a predictive and dynamic Biological Age and Rate of Ageing measure.

Every employee using it gets a daily ‘Humanity Score’: a function of their movement, nutrition, mind and recovery actions, daily gems, and streaks, with personalised guidance on which action will have the biggest likely impact that day to increase their probability of slowing down their rate of ageing. They can add people to their circle to help each other celebrate progress and be more accountable.

You can opt not to share data with your team or share data anonymously to be aggregated with other team members: leaders can then see collective progress without infringing user privacy.

For employers Humanity helps them nurture teams that stay healthier by taking positive healthy actions. These employees are also more likely to develop healthier daily habits, proven to directly improve workplace productivity and wellbeing. The knock-on effect is to reduce absenteeism, increase retention and attract talent.  But most of all, it empowers businesses to demonstrate measurable investment in their employees’ health and wellbeing.

For any employer wanting to engage with team health and safety beyond basic tick box compliance, employee-centric technology pioneers like Peoplesafe and Humanity are the successful exemplars of harnessing digital and AI technology in user-friendly apps for long-term positive employee outcomes.
