Mitsubishi Forklifts Trucks enhances features
23 February 2023
FOLLOWING THE Mitsubishi EDIA XL claiming the UK Material Handling Association’s (UKMHA) Environment award in 2022, Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks has upgraded its 4.0–5.5 tonne electric counterbalance further, as well as bringing many of the award-winning features to the rest of the EDiA range.
UKMHA’s expert jury was said to be highly impressed by the advanced technology incorporated into EDiA XL, and how it overcame issues traditionally associated with electric forklifts, allowing more companies to make the switch from diesel and LPG to electric without having to compromise.
Many of the features that have made EDiA XL such an attractive proposition are also patented technologies developed in-house by Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks’ R&D department. By extending these capabilities to the 1.4–2.0 tonne EDiA EM and 2.5–3.5 tonne EDiA EX models, customers can gain the same great benefits no matter which size truck they require.
AutoBoost
A prime example of this is AutoBoost, which is now a standard feature across the EDiA range. For years many electric trucks had a reputation for losing power when travelling on inclines and under heavy load. The AutoBoost system senses when and where the power is needed most, automatically activating acceleration and torque boosts to maintain speed and productivity.
Differential lock
Another patented feature is the electric differential lock. When working in wet or slippery conditions, the differential lock will give the truck the best possible traction by spinning both front wheels, and can be preset to engage when speed is low or steering angle is limited.
Adaptive Lift Control
Adaptive Lift Control adjusts hydraulic and drive functions when the load is above freelift to enable more precise and efficient handling. When the forks are above freelift, the travel speed, acceleration, lifting and lowering speed, tilt and sideshift speed, and attachment movement are all reduced.
Sensitive Drive System+
All current EDiA models have recently been updated to Sensitive Drive System+, the next-generation driver assistance system that improves safety by independently managing traction and mast performance in accordance with steer angle and the velocity of foot and finger inputs.
In addition to its performance capabilities, the EDiA XL also boasts one of the quietest hydraulic pumps on the market, contributing to its low overall noise level of just 65dB. This makes it a great choice for businesses operating in noise-sensitive environments.
The size of a machine is always a key factor in its design — especially with electric counterbalance trucks that aim to replace diesel or LPG models. The 5.5 tonne EDiA XL has a turning circle up to 1500mm less than an equivalent IC engine truck while maintaining higher lift capacity.
“Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks UK is dedicated to producing innovative and sustainable materials handling solutions, right across the range,” explains Ben Haseley of Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks UK. “The fact that the jury recognised EDiA XL as an ideal environmentally friendly electric alternative to 4.0–5.5 tonne diesel and LPG trucks is testament to that.”
