Key appointment for CHAS

12 October 2020

CHAS, the supply chain risk management expert, has appointed former Head of Group Corporate Responsibility at Kier Group, Gareth Rondel, as Environmental and Sustainability Lead.

Gareth brings extensive knowledge and experience to the role. He has over 25 years’ experience as a sustainability and stakeholder engagement expert and practitioner in private and publicly owned businesses, regulated utilities and conservation organisations.

From 2014 to 2019, Gareth worked as Head of Group Corporate Responsibility at Kier Group, where he led the creation, communication and delivery of the company’s sustainable business strategy – covering social impact, responsible procurement and carbon/climate issues amongst others – while meeting the diverse needs of clients and stakeholders.

During his time at Kier Group, Gareth increased the company’s social impact performance from £2m (2014) to £310m (2019) and achieved a reduction in carbon emissions ahead of target.

Previously, Gareth managed the sustainability strategies at Galliford Try and Wilmott Dixon, where he was also pivotal in delivering financial and carbon footprint efficiencies, achieving sustainability compliance to recognised systems and standards, and driving business cultural change.

Prior to these roles, Gareth was responsible for the stakeholder communication strategy on a range of major capital projects at Anglian Water.

Gareth’s role at CHAS will be to work within the Products and Markets team to look at a range of new offerings focusing on sustainable and responsible business, including environment and social impact. He will be working closely with the team to identify opportunities for growth across markets and to design new products and services which are market leading across various industry sectors to allow for growth of both the brand and the business.

CHAS Managing Director, Ian McKinnon, says: “We are delighted to welcome Gareth to the CHAS team. As the construction sector transitions to a low carbon future, sustainability is top of the industry’s agenda so Gareth's knowledge and experience is invaluable.”

Gareth Rondel adds: “I’m very excited to be taking up this opportunity at CHAS. The organisation has make a huge contribution to raising health & safety standards in the UK construction industry and I am looking forward to helping them have an equivalent impact across all areas of sustainable and responsible business.
