Strong demand for rescue training 22/07/2016

Over the past 12 months, work at height training company Eurosafe Solutions has reported a huge increase in demand for its rescue services, from both contractors and public sector organisations.

Andy Jennings, training manager at Eurosafe Solutions, said: “This rise in demand is largely due to companies recognising that they can’t rely solely on the emergency services, as outlined in HSE guidance, but also because they are taking a responsible approach to ensuring the welfare of employees and contractors.  Fall protection equipment is designed to arrest a fall, but what happens next could be fatal if an individual and their colleagues do not receive appropriate rescue training. One thing that is certain – our rescue training can save lives.”

Eurosafe Solutions’ Rescue from Height course includes both theory and practical skills – starting with an overview of the regulations relating to safe working practices, as well as covering essential health & safety and first aid procedures. The full day course also includes instruction on the correct use of rescue equipment for employees that work with fall arrest equipment including fall protection systems.

All Eurosafe Solutions’ training courses can be provided either at customers’ own premises or at the company’s purpose-built training centre in Sheffield. The centre has some of the best facilities for work at height training in the UK, including a number of indoor roofing rigs where practical demonstrations and assessments take place for the safe use of fall protection systems.

Andy Jennings, explains: “Our training courses are designed to ensure businesses are compliant and risks to workers are being minimised.  There really is no reason why all workers who operate at height do not receive rescue training – it’s an essential part of maximizing safety.”

Eurosafe Solutions has a dedicated training website which gives an overview of the content, length and price of each course, as well as details about certifications that can be achieved. The website also provides information about the purpose built training centre and options for on-site training and venue hire.

Test and inspect at height 29/06/2016

With company directors more aware than ever of their liabilities should an accident occur at their premises as a result of a fall from height, having a test and inspection regime for work at heights has never been more important, according to Eurosafe Solutions.

The fall protection test and inspection specialist, based in Sheffield, has seen an increase in demand for its services in the past 12 months, particularly from facilities management companies and landlords with medium to large building portfolios.

Director John Boyle said: “Compliance of fall protection equipment is extremely important and employers are recognising the risks they face if the equipment for work at height is not properly tested and inspected. A claim against a company from an employee, contractor or member of the public who suffers as a result of a faulty system on a roof or side of a building could run into tens of thousands of pounds. It’s really important to bring in experts to routinely test and inspect these systems to ensure they are compliant – it not only reduces risks to a business, but it could save someone’s life.”

Eurosafe Solutions, which has 20 years’ experience in fall protection testing and inspection for buildings across the UK and Europe, carries out individual load testing on fall protection systems, providing building owners with a more accurate assessment of the safety of their systems.  The company has recently released a guide to test and inspection for fall protection systems, which can be downloaded from its website www.eurosafesolutions.com.

Eurosafe Solutions also provides regular checks on Personal Protective Equipment to ensure it has not become obsolete and is fully compliant with the regulations.

Hospital takes to the roof 21/05/2015

Southmead Hospital in Bristol has demonstrated its commitment to safe working at height for its maintenance staff by appointing Eurosafe Solutions to deliver a series of fall protection safety courses.

The company recently trained six maintenance personnel on the correct use of Latchways’ horizontal and inclined fall protection cable systems, as well as on fall arrest harness and lanyard usage, which are used to aid and protect workers carrying out maintenance tasks on buildings.

Combining theoretical and practical training, the full day course has given Southmead Hospital’s maintenance staff an in-depth understanding of safe working at heights. The course included information on how to conduct pre-checks, how to clean, maintain and store equipment, as well as an overview of relevant health and safety legislation, including the Work at Height Regulation 2005.

After completion of the course, the company presented all delegates with a certificate that is valid for three years. Further sessions have been planned for a number of other maintenance staff.

Eurosafe Solutions' training manager Andy Jennings said: "We tailor each of our training courses to our customer specifications, so that delegates have the right skills and knowledge to safely access their buildings and equipment."

No horsing around 11/06/2014

Eurosafe Solutions has provided a safety solution to Scotland’s largest art installation, the Kelpies, to enable workers to access and carry out maintenance on the iconic structures.

The Kelpies are two 30 metre tall, 300 tonnes horse heads made entirely out of steel, that are the centrepiece of the 740-acre Helix Park, which has been built between Falkirk and Grangemouth. Sculpted by Glasgow artist Andy Scott, the structures are inspired by Scotland’s history of working horses, which once pulled barges along the nearby Forth and Clyde Canal.

Main contractor on the project SH Structures commissioned Eurosafe Solutions to supply and install an internal ladder within each of the horse heads, one 19 metre high and another 21 metre high, and also to provide rope access assistance to the installers of the structures external cladding.

Ian Shore, rope access co-ordinator at Eurosafe Solutions, said: "Our glideloc system was chosen as it offers a safe, aesthetically pleasing and cost effective alternative to traditional hooped ladders. We were able to fit the ladders quickly and efficiently and then moved on to supporting the installation team with rope access techniques to complete the rest of the project."

The ladders provided by Eurosafe Solutions consist of multiple sections of glideloc "Y” spar ladder sections, with a pivot section at the front of each which can be locked to prevent unauthorised use. The glideloc system consists of a fall protection rail, which forms a unique central stile to which the rungs of the ladder connect. To enable safe accent of the equipment, each ladder features a shock absorbing travelling device within the rail, providing the link between the users harness and the ladder system itself.

Increased demand 26/11/2013

Eurosafe Solutions, a work at height training specialists, says it has seen a major increase in sales of the VERTEX ST and VERTEX BEST safety helmets.

The VERTEX ST helmet has been specifically designed to offer protection against impacts and falling objects during ground level work, whilst the VERTEX BEST helmet is specifically designed for work at height and rescue situations.

Both the VERTEX ST and the VERTEX BEST helmet are very comfortable, due to their six-point mesh headband and chinstrap, which can be easily adjusted and keeps the helmet safely centred on the head. The chin strap on both helmets can be released if snagged and the helmets’ unventilated shell protects against electrical hazards and molten metal splash. Both helmets have two thicknesses of foam bands, which are included to ensure a customised fit. In addition, both are designed to accept hearing protection or a visor or headlamp, which can easily be fitted within a few seconds.

The helmets also offer shock absorption.

Olympic Legacy reminder 03/09/2013

With attention turning to the Olympic Park once again this year for the Sainsburys Anniversary Games, the construction industry was reminded of the extraordinary feat achieved by the contractors involved in building the infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Fall protection specialist Eurosafe Solutions played a key part in the ‘exemplary health and safety record’ by providing a specialist fall protection system which allowed safe access for roofing contractors, Lakesmere, to install the iconic wave roof on the Olympic Aquatic Centre.

Lakesmere was presented with a major challenge when safe access was required for engineers to install the Kalzip aluminum cladding system to the striking wave-form roof, which was designed to resemble a swimmer breaking the water.  Fall protection specialist, Eurosafe Solutions, designed and implemented a fall protection system, using temporary Mansafe systems to allow construction work to be carried out safely on the curved eaves of the roof.

Safety helmet for working at height 30/05/2013

Work at height training specialist Eurosafe Solutions is reported to have seen a major increase in sales of the Vertex ST helmet, which has been specifically designed to offer protection to those working at height.

Work at height training specialist Eurosafe Solutions is reported to have seen a major increase in sales of the Vertex ST helmet, which has been specifically designed to offer protection to those working at height.

Andy Jennings, training manager at Eurosafe Solutions, said: "This helmet is proving extremely popular with customers on our training sessions, as it has a wide range of features which make it comfortable and suitable for many types of work. It is well suited to those working in hazardous or industrial conditions, providing workers with the level of comfort and protection they need." Unlike standard construction helmets, which if not worn with correctly fitted chin straps can have a tendency to fall from the user's head when bending or in the event of a fall, the Vertex helmet remains comfortably secured on the head due to its six-point mesh headband. This can be easily adjusted, but keeps it centred on the head and also offers shock absorption, which is achieved through deformation of the outer shell.

The Vertex ST is designed to accept hearing protection, a visor or headlamp, which can easily be fitted within a few seconds.

The helmet's unventilated shell ensures protection against electrical risks and molten splash.
