Carbon forecasting: Helping you save time, cost, and carbon emissions | 29/06/2023 |
---|---|
THE IMPACTS of climate change are already starting to affect us, as extreme weather and biodiversity loss affects the communities least able to withstand it. Without concerted and ambitious action from companies and governments, climate change will have a significant effect on our businesses and our daily lives. Saving time, cost and carbon emissions is at the forefront of most people’s minds when thinking about their business. Sustainability and saving on carbon emissions is becoming ever more important and ways to make your business more sustainable can be a daunting thought as there are so many changes that can be made, some more difficult than others. At Greenham, we are dedicated to helping your business be more carbon efficient with simple solutions and an easy-to-understand carbon forecasting model. What is net zero? Net zero means cutting greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible, with any remaining emissions re-absorbed from the atmosphere, by oceans and forests for example. Science shows that in order to advert the worst impacts of climate change and preserve a liveable planet, global temperature increase needs to be limited to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. Currently, the Earth is already about 1.1C warmer than it was in the late 1800s and emissions continue to rise. To reach this target we need to be net zero by 2050. Bunzl are dedicated as a business to reaching this target in the effort to help protect our planet. In 2021, Bunzl plc joined the largest alliance on climate change and committed to the business ambition for 1.5° C and are now members of Race to Zero. Bunzl plc has announced new, long-term carbon efficiency targets across the group for our Scope 1 and 2 emissions that are aligned to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). By using science-based targets, Bunzl aim to become 25% more carbon-efficient by 2025, 50% by 2030 and net zero by 2050. We are a signatory of the UN’s Business Ambition for 1.5C and the race to zero. At Bunzl Greenham, we became 24.4% more carbon-efficient from 2019 – 2022 through the continued roll out of low carbon fleet solutions and warehouse efficiency improvements. This year we hope to have nine delivery vehicles with solar film matting, 52% of our warehouses with LED lighting installed and an 100% renewable electricity supply. As we head towards 2025, Bunzl will be making a few significant changes that will help in making the business more carbon efficient. We will be transitioning all the applicable fleet to low and zero carbon solutions. We will be trialling alternative fuels in our larger vehicles and taking energy efficiency measures in warehouses. We will also be procuring and generating renewable energy. What is carbon forecasting? Carbon forecasting is the process of predicting the amount of carbon emissions that will be produced in the future. This can be done by analysing historical data on emissions, as well as economic and demographic trends that may impact the level of emissions. Carbon forecasts are used to inform policy decisions related to reducing emissions, such as setting emissions targets or designing carbon pricing schemes. At Greenham, our solutions significantly reduce road miles and minimise both our and our customers’ carbon footprint by consolidating multiple items into single mixed pallet deliveries. We are also playing our part by cutting emissions across our own business – because it’s critical that we support the global efforts to limit warming. We have a responsibility to help society transition to a more sustainable world and to become more sustainable ourselves. By using your delivery data and analysing your ordering profiles, we can calculate and project what your carbon emissions will be. We have developed a model that demonstrates your current emissions related to your Greenham deliveries. We then work with you to show how small changes in ordering patterns and product choices can result in big changes to your carbon emissions. This not only helps us to make decisions, but it can help clients along their journey to net zero too. The carbon forecasting model uses a driver-based approach to forecast different scenarios and policy initiative impacts. We will send you a report demonstrating the monthly impact of the orders you have received from us and a recommended target for emissions reductions. With forecasting the carbon emissions, we can work together in making better informed decisions around sustainability. Together we can save time, cost, and carbon emissions. Lightweight 5-in-1 fire extinguisher | 23/02/2022 |
FIRES CAN devastate homes and lives, fact. On average there are 37,000 housefires a year and over 200 deaths which are mainly cause by electrical misuse in the home. To tackle these awful facts LifeSafe Technologies have come up with a lightweight, compact aerosol fire extinguisher that is different from your everyday clunky metal fire extinguisher. Gone are the days of expensive and ugly metal canisters sitting in the corner of your kitchen. This small 5-in-1 extinguisher can travel anywhere with you; in the car, camping, fishing and at work and it very easy to use. Instead of the normal method of pulling a release on an extinguisher, all you have to do is take off the cap and spray. The StaySafe 5-in-1 also puts out 5 different types of fires:
You would usually need to have different types of normal extinguishers for each type of fire however this one, nifty product does it all for you. One of LifeSafe’s customers said “I have recommended this product and company to anyone who will listen. Thankfully, I [personally] have not had to test their products out… but I like the compact size of their extinguisher… I have one in the car, one in the kitchen and one upstairs.” Another benefit of the StaySafe 5-in-1 is that it has been tested rigorously against British standards
This product is so unique that standards rarely keep up with innovation so the EN3 test are designed for metal containers. So due to the StaySafe 5-in-1’s size, construction and innovative nature mean the EN3 test are not designed for this product. Therefore, LifeSafe requested that BSI independently tested and verified the product to ensure it is safe and effective… They really do try to think of it all! This no-mess fire extinguisher also has minimal impact on the environment in contrast to the traditional powder extinguishers which ruin the surface they’re sprayed on and get in the water supply. The solution inside the StaySafe 5-in-1 canister is not harmful to plant life or water and barely leaves a trace once it has been sprayed. The bottle is also fully recyclable meaning no waste! Not only this but the liquid inside has a 3-year shelf life so you don’t have to keep replacing it every year and just be happy in the fact that it’s close by – just in case. Other innovative products from LifeSafe Technologies includes PanSafe. This is an easy-to-use sachet that can be thrown into pan fires so as to not spread the fire around and to put it out at its source. As per the StaySafe 5-in-1 Fire Extinguisher, it is compact and can slide easily into your kitchen draw so you can use it quickly and effectively. It smothers the fire and even eliminates the toxic gas left behind limiting the amount of mess and damage. Not only is LifeSafe all about protecting yourselves and your family but also detecting hazards. With this in mind, they have also recently launched a new Carbon monoxide detector with a loud 85dB sound alarm which is coming soon to Greenham. Carbon monoxide or the ‘silent killer’ has no taste or smell so can be really hard to detect hence why a carbon monoxide detector should be put near gas fires, cookers and solid fuel stoves. It’s scary to think that on average 50 people a year die from something that could so easily be prevented just with a small device. Do you have a Carbon Monoxide detector in your home? Not only does LifeSafe focus on fires but also all aspects of family living. You don’t think you will ever need to use some of these products, but wouldn’t you feel a little safer knowing that one is in your cupboard, your car, your toolbox or on your shelf? Don’t let a fire ruin your moments wherever you may be this year. Get a LifeSafe product today, and you could save you or your families lives… |
