IWFM launches global mentoring service
15 August 2023
THE INSTITUTE of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM) has launched a new mentoring programme to help its members gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to perform at a higher level via impartial, non-judgmental guidance and support.

IWFM Mentoring is a one-to-one, personalised career support service which is available as an inclusive benefit for IWFM Associate, Member, Certified and Fellow membership grades, and non-members who receive a complimentary one-year membership while studying for an IWFM qualification.
When an eligible mentee registers with the programme, they are paired with a highly experienced FM professional – a mentor – who will work with them to agree their development and career goals and provide ongoing support towards achieving them. To ensure consistent high standards, mentors receive training and resources, and mentees’ skills and knowledge are developed in line with the IWFM Professional Standards.
IWFM CEO Linda Hausmanis commented, "IWFM Mentoring perfectly matches those seeking personal support to achieve their professional development goals with the talent and experience of our most distinguished members, ready to give back to the profession they love. It’s a double win!
"And the evidence backs this need. Our research found that more than half of employers do not provide FMs with mentoring opportunities. It also suggested that women favour mentoring over other development methods; and that mentoring could play a key role in making FM more diverse and inclusive."
Jonathan Nobbs, IWFM director of membership and partnerships said, "Our recent listening exercise revealed mentoring as the number one service our members wanted when we asked how IWFM could boost their professional development. As the Institute enters its fourth decade, IWFM Mentoring is a powerful proof point for our mission to empower members to upskill and reach their potential for a rewarding, impactful career.
"It’s already proving popular ahead of today’s formal launch with well over 100 mentors so far registered to help our members with the benefit of their experience. I would strongly urge IWFM members to log in to the IWFM website and register with the scheme to access this new invaluable source of support."
