Thorough truck examinations

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

To keep your operations safe and legal, CFTS (Consolidated Fork Lift Truck Services) identified the following points as what you need to know about mandatory ‘Thorough Examinations’ for fork lift operators:

  • The costs for non-compliance are higher than they ever have been.
  • You need a Thorough Examination at least once every 12 months.

  • Lifting parts of the truck are covered by LOLER 98 and non-lifting by PUWER 98

  • If the truck is owned outright, then testing responsibility falls on the truck’s owner. When a truck is hired for less than a year, it lies with the rental company.

  • If you fail to comply you run the risk of prosecution and financial penalties.

  • CTFS came about after the FLTA and BITA agreed on a need for a new Thorough Examination process.

  • A wide range of trucks including counterbalance, tele-handlers and reach trucks can be inspected.

  • The authority and familiarity provided by the FLTA and BITA, working with HSE, makes CFTS the highest possible standard.
