CRH, a global leader in building
materials, uses a fleet of over 200, 2.5t
to 8t engine counter balance trucks in
its UK operations alone within Ibstock
Brick, Forticrete and Supreme
Concrete. With numerous locations in
the UK and Europe, the group has
improved safety at its manufacturing
facilities through the application of a
new auto-reverse speed reduction aid
developed in partnership with Linde
Material Handling.
On reversing, the driver aid
automatically slows down the truck
through the transmission when the
truck rear sensors are triggered. The
system produces audible and visual
warnings for drivers and pedestrians
when a person or object is detected by
the reverse sensors. At an agreed
point, the speed reduction through
the transmission is activated which
slows the truck down from 5 to 1km
per hour. This reduces the risk of
collisions and injury to pedestrians
when reversing.
