Safety in aisles

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

GR Lane Health Products has replaced its ageing fleet of articulated forklifts with two Aisle-Masters at its manufacturing facilities in Gloucester.

The trucks are used primarily inside to safely put pallets containing raw materials into 6m high bays of racking which accommodate 1,900 pallet spaces. They then take them to the manufacturing, production, packaging and quality control areas and also handle finished products in the despatch area, where they negotiate some confined spaces.

The trucks’ width of 1030mm enables them to fit in the premises’ 1900mm aisles as well as in some areas that are even tighter. The over articulation of more than 90⁰ is designed to offer better manoeuvrability and efficiency, providing more leeway when reversing.

The warehouse operates at around 85% capacity and stock throughput is fast, being delivered just-in- time, so key factors are safety, speedy handling and reliability.
