Queensferry Crossing – construction worker killed
A worker has been killed on the Queensferry Crossing in Scotland while working on the deck of the north tower. A colleague also sustained injuries during the incident.
The crossing, which is due to open in 2016 and will be nearly two miles long, is currently being constructed alongside the Forth Road Bridge. Following today's tragedy work has now ceased as investigations commence.
Some sources suggest that the 60 year old man was hit by the boom of a crane he was directing.
According to a Police Scotland spokesman, a man was pronounced dead shortly after the alarm was raised at 12.20pm. The other construction worker's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The spokesman added that inquiries are now underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
