Industry praises Health & Safety North

Attendees from a broad range of construction and health and safety industries were treated to an exhibition of the latest innovations and top level conferences from key industry stakeholders.

 

First launched in 2007, Western Business Exhibition’s series of safety events has expanded rapidly with support from the industry’s leading voices. With the continued support of The British Safety Council, Health & Safety North was the 21st event and brought together the best of the UK health & safety industry. 

Ian Travers, deputy director of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) who spoke on the issue of corporate governance, said the show was a useful opportunity to share the learning from global incidents in the major hazards sector with a broader audience. 

“I am sure the audience found more similarities than differences with the underlying causes of major accidents with their own sector,” he said. “If we are to continue to improve our health and safety performance we should take every opportunity to learn from others as common approaches to risk management are more prevalent than we think. I found the shared experience very worthwhile.”

NASC managing director, Robin James, added: “This event has been a great success in getting across the important technical and safety guidance messages of both NASC & CISRS. And being a more regional event, with a northern UK delegate base, this has been a useful exercise for us.” 

CISRS training manager, Dave Mosley, concurred: “We are always looking for ways to widen the reach of the organisation, and keen to get our message of getting the right training across to the construction and health and safety industries, right across the UK. This event has been another successful step forward.”

Following on from the success of this event, Health & Safety Scotland will take place on 24 to 26 March 2015 at the NEC in Birmingham.
