Avoid collision

Fork Rent, the UK’s largest
independently owned and run selfdrive
plant hire
company, has selected
the VCAS vehicle
collision avoidance
system from Spillard
Safety Systems as the
latest safety aid for its
rapidly expanding
fleet. The company is initially fitting
the system to 24 of its Terex dumpers
to reduce the risk of accidents where
drivers are operating with a fully
loaded skip.

Putting the operator first

Combilift chose the IMHX
exhibition, which took place in
March, to launch a number of new
models. The new Combi-WR Walkie
Reach, its first pedestrian truck,
incorporates the benefits of AC
technology in its traction, pump and
steering motors. It has a lift height of
4.2m and a load capacity of 1,450kg.

Show some restraint

The Combilok vehicle restraint
system from Stertil Stokvis supports
the safe loading and unloading of
vehicles within loading bays
throughout the UK. It was developed
exclusively to reduce the risk of
unintentional vehicle movement on
loading bays and offers a ‘safety net’
against poor communication by
holding vehicles in one place until
loading or unloading is completed.

Dock leveller for supermarket

Translyft have recently removed a
dock leveller in a supermarket
loading bay as it had become too
expensive to maintain. The welds on
the main hinge were beginning to
show cracks and Translyft engineers
recommended that a replacement
unit should be installed. Translyft
carried out a survey of the existing
dock leveller pit, and subsequently
produced full specification drawings
before manufacturing a replacement
unit in approximately four weeks.
