Company fined £450k for corporate manslaughter

Posted on Tuesday 27 October 2026

COTSWOLD RAINWATER Services Ltd pleaded guilty to an offence of Corporate Manslaughter on 10 September 2026 in the Crown Court at Oxford.

The proceedings related to the death of Andrew Claridge who was an employee of Cotswold Rainwater Services Ltd. On 14 November 2024, Mr Claridge was electrocuted by overhead power lines during the course of his employment.

The evidence showed that the company:

  • Had failed to carry out an appropriate risk assessment both before and after another employee received an electric shock at the same site on a previous occasion.
  • Had failed to provide Mr Claridge with the equipment necessary to mitigate the risk of death or serious injury. Or, alternatively, failed to take such other steps as would otherwise have mitigated the risk.
  • Had failed to comply with both the appropriate industry standards and its own health and safety policies in relation to works conducted close to overhead power lines, despite the risk of serious injury or death being highly foreseeable.

On 9 October 2026, the company was sentenced to a fine of £450,000. It was also ordered to pay prosecution costs in the sum of £15,735. It was further ordered to publicise this conviction on its own website.

The company continues to operate as Cotswold Rainwater Services Ltd.
