Have your say on the ever-changing health and safety landscape

Posted on Thursday 26 January 2023

HEALTH AND safety has always been a key component for any business operation and, since the pandemic, has been pushed ever more into the forefront.

In association with Health & Safety Matters (HSM) magazine, RS UK & Ireland wants to hear from health and safety professionals about what really matters to them.

We want to know how attitudes have changed towards health and safety in your company. Are you optimistic for the future, or are there further challenges on the horizon?

Rob Russell, group sales director for RS Safety Solutions, a new, safety-focused division of RS UK & Ireland said, “The Protect What Matters survey is an opportunity to dig deep into understanding what matters most to health and safety professionals when it comes to protecting their people and their products.

“It will form an industry report helping health and safety professionals navigate the future opportunities and challenges.”

Industry professionals have numerous challenges to consider including cost efficiencies, sustainability and quality assurance. And mistakes can be costly in the short and long term.

“More and more companies are taking health and safety seriously because the repercussions for not doing so can be enormous if they don’t follow correct procedures,” added Rob.

“It may only take one faulty piece of PPE like a ripped glove to bring a bar line to a halt in the food and drink industry, leading to hours of costly downtime for the production process,” he added. “In turn, that will lead to hours of investigation if the damaged product has somehow reached the customer, which means that line may have to be removed from sale, bringing further financial implications for a company.

“Not only can someone’s life be put at risk if they don’t wear correct PPE, which has massive consequences for that individual and their loved ones,” he added. “But a company can face hefty fines if it is discovered to be at fault. And, as a result, that can have a significant – possibly irreversible – impact to its reputation.”

The results from the Protect What Matters survey will be revealed in a future edition of HSM and they promise to be an insightful and in-depth read.
