A range of new Crown models
offering enhanced efficiency,
improved safety and energy savings
were on show at the IMHX exhibition
in March. The WP 3000 series
powered pallet trucks for instance,
feature robust steel covers, Crown’s
innovative X10 control handle, and
brake override mode. High-lift forks
on the WP 3080 raise the load by
750mm to give postural relief when
manually transferring goods.
Fork Rent, the UK’s largest
independently owned and run selfdrive
plant hire
company, has selected
the VCAS vehicle
collision avoidance
system from Spillard
Safety Systems as the
latest safety aid for its
rapidly expanding
fleet. The company is initially fitting
the system to 24 of its Terex dumpers
to reduce the risk of accidents where
drivers are operating with a fully
loaded skip.

If you are responsible for moving
goods then you may have considered
investing in a lift to improve
operations, cut costs and protect
your staff from injuries caused by
manual handling. ‘Goods Lifts – Your
Questions Answered’ is a new
booklet produced by UK lift experts
Stannah. Available online at
www.stannahlifts.co.uk/glyqa/, the
booklet is designed to act as a guide
to identifying your need, evaluating
the potential loads and frequency of
travel and answering all the
questions
Combilift chose the IMHX
exhibition, which took place in
March, to launch a number of new
models. The new Combi-WR Walkie
Reach, its first pedestrian truck,
incorporates the benefits of AC
technology in its traction, pump and
steering motors. It has a lift height of
4.2m and a load capacity of 1,450kg.
As the economy continues to bite
hard, Thorworld Industries says
that it is even more important that
users of loading bay equipment
commit to a rigorous maintenance
programme to ensure that their
equipment is safe and effective.
The Combilok vehicle restraint
system from Stertil Stokvis supports
the safe loading and unloading of
vehicles within loading bays
throughout the UK. It was developed
exclusively to reduce the risk of
unintentional vehicle movement on
loading bays and offers a ‘safety net’
against poor communication by
holding vehicles in one place until
loading or unloading is completed.
Translyft have recently removed a
dock leveller in a supermarket
loading bay as it had become too
expensive to maintain. The welds on
the main hinge were beginning to
show cracks and Translyft engineers
recommended that a replacement
unit should be installed. Translyft
carried out a survey of the existing
dock leveller pit, and subsequently
produced full specification drawings
before manufacturing a replacement
unit in approximately four weeks.
Fyffes, an importer and distributor of
tropical produce, has installed
Castell’s Salvo drive-away prevention
system at its UK distribution centres –
a total of 31 loading bays.
