New Whitepaper on Explosion Safety from Camfil APC

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Camfil Air Pollution Control (APC), a leading global manufacturer of dust, fume and mist collection equipment, announces that they have published a new whitepaper; Dust Collectors and Explosion Safety: Isolation.

Part of many industrial processes, explosive dusts are the primary challenge for dust collection systems that are designed to minimise, avoid or control the risk of an explosion. This white paper explores the effectiveness of isolation with focus on the two European ATEX directives for equipment: (94/9/EC), and plant: (1999/92). The foundation of a safe system is the zoning of the system as defined in directive 1992/92.
A safe filter needs to have the ignition risks minimised and be designed to be safe in case of an accident. This is achieved by limiting the spread of the explosion and releasing the pressure and flames in a safe way. If the exhaust pipe does not lead directly out to a safe location, it needs to be equipped with a means of isolation, i.e. a mechanical device. Furthermore, to maintain the level of safety the system must be inspected and approved by a competent person at least once every year.
