Manhole covers reduce injury

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Referred to as a ‘future material’, glass reinforced plastic (GRP) composites have pioneered the manufacture of manhole covers, according to Fibrelite.

A recent customer of Fibrelite’s GRP manhole covers said: “Using these covers eliminates manual handling issues and injury; the keys are at waist height so there’s no need to bend down and the covers don’t seize up so we don’t need to bend down with extra tools to release them. And because they’re so light, lifting is quicker which means we get more work done.”

GRP products are used for applications where corrosion can destroy underground infrastructure. Fibrelite’s range of GRP composite access covers and modular trench covers are used in many industries including water and water treatment, ports and docks, transport, power and energy as well as retail, commercial and industrial developments.

Fibrelite’s in-house technical department and flexible tooling allows the company to design and manufacture tailor-made covering systems to suit individual requirements.
