Crane on the right track

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Continuing its long-held association with national rail freight operator Direct Rail Services (DRS) Konecranes has manufactured and installed a 110T fixed goliath crane at their new facility at Georgemas Junction in Scotland.

Providing a lifting height of 11.9 metres, the goliath crane is being used to tranship flasks from road to rail transport for delivery to a nuclear reprocessing plant in Cumbria.

After being subjected to rigorous health and safety and quality checks, the double girder goliath crane was installed by a team of six crane service engineers who remained on-site for the duration of the contract, often working through the night. As a result, Konecranes delivered the project two days ahead of schedule.

DRS’s head of civil engineering & terminals Tony Hewitson said: “The service provided by Konecranes throughout the project exceeded our expectations, which ensured that it progressed efficiently.”
