Award win for Lucion wellbeing strategy

Posted on Thursday 28 May 2026

LUCION HAS been named Employee Wellness Initiative of the Year at the British HR Awards 2026 for its mental health strategy aimed at tackling suicide risk within the construction sector.

The awards, now in their fifth year, celebrate organisations delivering outstanding workplace and people initiatives across the UK. This year’s winners were announced at a ceremony in Covent Garden, London, following 474 entries from businesses nationwide.

Lucion was recognised for its “Been There Will Share” campaign, a company-wide mental health strategy launched in 2025 to improve awareness, support and wellbeing across its workforce.

The initiative was developed in response to growing concerns around mental health in construction, where two workers die by suicide every day in the UK. Lucion said 81% of its male employees fall into one of the highest-risk demographic groups: men under 50 working in the North East of England.

Since launching the programme, Lucion has trained 58 Mental Health First Aiders across its sites, while all managers have completed Mental Health Awareness training as part of the company’s leadership programme.

Carolyn Cole, chief people officer at Lucion, said: “Winning this award is a profound moment for everyone at Lucion,” she said. “It validates the incredible journey we’ve been on together and recognises the courage of every colleague who has embraced this cultural change.

“What makes this win particularly meaningful is knowing that our approach is making a real difference. Every initiative, every conversation, and every connection is bringing us closer to our vision of a workplace where everyone can thrive.”

Phil Coles, chief executive officer at Lucion, said employee wellbeing had become central to the organisation’s culture and long-term strategy.

“This award recognises something we’ve always believed, that our people are our greatest asset, and their wellbeing is fundamental to everything we do,” he said.

The British HR Awards also recognised organisations including the British Heart Foundation, TSB Bank and EMCOR UK/OCS across a range of HR and workplace categories.
