3M SUPPORTS YOUTH CHARITY WITH EQUIPMENT DONATION

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

Diversified technology company 3M has recently made a donation of approximately £2,000 worth of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to a branch of a youth charity, local to its UK headquarters in Bracknell, Berkshire

Nacro, the crime
reduction charity, was founded more than 40 years ago to provide young people
with learning and development opportunities and prevent them turning to crime.
In Bracknell, Nacro runs a regular workshop to train unemployed 16 to 19 year-olds,
equipping them with construction and employability skills and supporting them
as they search for work.

With all trainees and
instructors having to comply with health and safety regulations, the Personal
Safety Division of 3M stepped in to provide PPE including coveralls, reusable
respirators, ear plugs and safety glasses to protect against hazards including
low level wood and silica dust.

Mark Lauri,
construction tutor for Nacro, explained: “As a charity we rely heavily on
donations yet still have a duty to keep our trainees safe while they learn. We are
very appreciative of the generous support from 3M, which will enable us to
continue to offer our courses to around 20 young trainees every week.”

Anja Buchan of the 3M
Personal Safety Division commented: “We are delighted to support this very worthwhile
cause with the donation of our PPE products. On completion of their courses,
Nacro trainees will possess the practical skills they need for a rewarding
career in construction, as well as the knowledge to keep them compliant and
safe in the workplace.”

Nacro’s services in
Bracknell focus on preventing crime by giving disadvantaged young people the
qualifications, skills and confidence to find work or further education. For
