productThe health and safety industry has seen a huge increase in fake Safety Certificates over the last year with well established brands and notified bodies (authorised test houses) being the primary targets. In conjunction with the notified bodies, we have established links with Government to highlight fake and incorrect certificates and have these removed.
productCurrently European legislation regulates the performance of rainwear for workers to make certain it meets a minimum requirement. This ensures workers are adequately protected in adverse weather and since they frequently have little choice but to continue to work despite the weather, it is important they receive sensible protection.
productNow that the Olympic and Paralympic games have closed and become a fond memory, Britain can look back on one of the most successful games ever and pat itself on the back. A job well done!
productIn the September issue of Health & Safety Matters we highlighted the growing problem of Fake CE Certificates of Conformance and the consequent issues this raises. If the product has not been tested, will it really perform as it should? Probably not, and since the certificate is not genuine, the product should not be used in any occupational environment, since noncertified personal protective equipment is illegal for use at work.
productOn 11th September the Government announced plans to make hundreds of thousands of businesses exempt from health and safety inspections, bring in new legislation to protect businesses from “compensation culture” claims and to scrap or overhaul over 3,000 regulations.
productThe principle that offenders should pay for their misdeeds has now arrived in the safety world. The HSE has started its “Fee for Intervention” scheme, which will mean that those companies that break health and safety laws are liable for recovery of the HSE’s related costs, including inspection, investigation and taking enforcement action.
