Road tunnels

Nobel Fire Systems has refurbished
the fire protection system for two
major road tunnels managed by the
Highways Agency. The tunnels near
Brighton and Folkestone are fitted
with extensive lighting and have
ventilation fans to ensure adequate
levels of air quality. Controls for these
lights and fans are situated in close
proximity to both the tunnels in
purpose built Tunnel Support
Buildings, known as TSB’s.

Superfine mist

Jewel Fire Systems has received a
BSI Kite Mark for its new E-series
fire extinguisher. The
product operates in the
same way as other
hand held
extinguishers, but uses
patented technology
that creates a superfine
mist using nothing but
purified water.

NHS maintenance contracts

PEL Services has been awarded the
fire detection and emergency lighting
maintenance contract for a number of
NHS Trusts in Hertfordshire. As part
of a joint venture, East & North
Hertfordshire and West Hertfordshire
Hospitals NHS Trusts combined to
outsource the maintenance of their
fire alarms, smoke damper control
equipment and emergency lighting. A
formal tender process was put into
place using OJEU protocol, which
rigorously vets each tenderer based on
the companies’ management

Preferred system

With around 40 individual buildings
housing over 160,000m2 of prime
office space, Cobalt Business Park in
Newcastle is the largest complex of its
kind in the UK. Life safety installation
specialists ARC365 won the tender to
install a Hochiki Europe fire
detection system in the first building,
and has since carried out similar work
for all but three site buildings.

Klaxon Signals has developed a new
range of fire signalling devices that
ensure no one is left behind in a fire
emergency. Sonos Pulse fire beacons
and sounder beacons emit a highbrightness
pulsating light, complying
with the new European standard
EN54-23 for visual alarm devices.

Intelligent fire door

Safety and convenience often don’t
sit well together. We know we need
to keep fire doors closed to hinder
the spread of fire, yet often ease and
convenience mean doors are
propped open. Fireco’s solution is
wire-free device Freedor, which
holds fire doors open at any angle
but automatically closes the door
when the fire alarm sounds,
preventing the spread of fire and
smoke around the building.
