In March 2009 the Information Commissioner’s Office raided the offices of the Consulting Association and exposed the existence of a blacklist containing the details of 3,213 construction workers. The blacklist had been used by over 40 UK construction companies and news of its existence was a cause of great concern for the BSIF.

HSE Triennial Review

Findings of the long awaited Triennial Review of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) were published on January 9th, concluding that the HSE is fit for purpose as a non-departmental public body and that, with some recommended improvements, it should continue to carry out all of its functions. 2014 is shaping up to be a very important milestone in the Occupational Health and Safety market in the UK. This year sees the 40th anniversary of the Health and Safety at Work Act, a key element in the reduction of workplace fatalities from over 650 in 1974 to less than 150 at present, a figure still too high which must be reduced further.
