Last month the Government announced that motorists who use handheld mobile phones while driving could face an increase from the current three penalty points to four, and fines could go up to £150 from £100. The proposals form part of the Department of Transport’s road safety plan which the Government will be consulting on in 2016.
Following the publication of new sentencing guidelines on 3 November, some have described the event as: “one of the biggest changes to health and safety enforcement that we have seen in decades.”
New guidelines for sentences imposed on companies for health and safety offences in the workplace, including corporate manslaughter should serve as a serious wake-up call for companies operating company vehicles.
