The gathering of BSIF delegates and guests was warmly welcomed by Sarah Bridge, deputy managing director at BM Polyco Ltd and chairman of the BSIF and over freshly brewed coffee, tea and pastries, Sarah encouraged them to continue making the most of the BSIF membership and wished everyone well at their chosen sporting endeavours.
I had the privilege of updating all those present on the current activities of the Federation highlighting in particular our progress with public affairs and political engagement in support of the Federation’s need to be able to reach the ears of the legislators at Westminster. It was also a chance to remind those present of the challenges we face in redeeming the reputation of the market somewhat damaged by the “Efl n Safety” handle. At the local level it was an opportunity to re – enforce the support offered by PB Consulting in members reaching their local MPs to build a relationship and remind them about the value of the safety & health sector to UK plc.
The agenda provided an ideal networking platform set against the backdrop of a mini exhibition by Federation supporters followed by lunch. With the golfers teeing off at 1.30pm and all others a little apprehensive but excited about what lay ahead in their country pursuits all the delegates headed to the appropriate venues, until reconvening at 7pm for the Networking Gala Dinner.
With over 100 people in attendance, the dinner was a great success and generous contributions flowed to our named charity which was Hearing Link. Over £700 was raised on the night that will go to support those living with hearing loss.
Before the main course, Alan McArthur and John Cairns were presented with awards which you can read more about in the following article.
I have attended all previous Networking Events bar one in the past seventeen years. This has been certainly one to remember. Not only because it is my first Networking Event as CEO of the BSIF but because it was an energetic gathering where new members met old and opportunities abounded for further connections. In a week when Europe won the 2014 Ryder Cup, the BSIF won new friends and guaranteed a bright future for the Federation.
