CSL unveils PSTN Switch-Off solution
12 August 2024
CSL HAS announced the launch of VoiceLink, which is a PSTN Switch-Off solution for emergency phones.

By 2027, the Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) will be switched off, disrupting many industries. Traditional landlines and voice services currently supported by PSTN will need to be switched to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), before the deadline. There are still 9.5 million lines and channels yet to be upgraded across the UK.
VoiceLink converts PSTN calls to 4G VoLTE, ensuring analogue systems are future-proofed and can continue to make voice calls. The solution creates a bridge between the old and new technology and allows existing devices to continue working after the PSTN Switch-Off. In addition, all 3G services will be shutdown before the end of 2024. This means any systems currently using 3G only, with no 2G fallback, will also need to be upgraded.
This new solution is said to be ideal for emergency phones, found across motorways, national grid sites, petrol forecourts, airports, retail, local councils, hospitals, and business premises. CSL head of product Andy Bromley commented: “We are aware of the challenges presented by the nation’s PSTN Switch-Off and 3G Shutdown, and therefore we want to guarantee that our customers have a reliable, future-proof solution for the impending problem. VoiceLink works so that systems remain uninterrupted, ensuring business continuity and/or public safety is not compromised.”
